How it works when buying existing work and when commissioning a custom painting.

Am I committed to anything when I send a request?

Everything on this website is non-binding. A request is not an order: you're not committed to anything yet, and neither am I. After your request I get in touch with you personally, usually by email, to discuss it. Only once we agree together on what you'll receive and for what price is there an agreement. From that point I send you the payment details and consider the work reserved for you.

How do I buy a painting that is already finished?

For a painting that's already finished, I'll contact you about how to pay and about shipping or pickup. As soon as payment has been received, the work is yours.

How does it work when I commission a painting?

For a commission we first discuss the size, colours, mood and any realistic details together. I only start painting once we agree on the design and you've paid a 30% deposit. Expect a delivery time of 4 to 8 weeks. You pay the remainder before delivery: I only ship or hand over the work once the full amount has been paid. If you cancel the commission after paying the deposit, you won't get it back, since I will already have invested time and materials.

Can I still change my mind later?

Every painting I make to commission is created specially for you: your idea, your colours, your composition. That's exactly why there is no statutory cooling-off period for commissioned work.

How does the painting get to me?

By arrangement you can pick up a work from me, or I'll ship it. I determine the shipping cost based on the package size and the destination, and let you know in advance. I pack paintings carefully; if a work is still damaged in transit, please let me know as soon as possible so we can look for a solution together.

Do the colours look different in real life?

I do my best to show photos of my work as true to life as possible, but colours may vary slightly depending on your screen and the light in your home. Every painting is handmade; small variations in the paint texture are part of that.

Can I use a photo of the painting?

Copyright in my paintings always stays with me, even after a work has been sold. Buying a painting doesn't give you the right to reproduce, publish or use it commercially. Want to share or picture a work, for example for your own website or in print? Just check with me first.

What if it turns out different from what I expected?

I handle every commission and request with care, but can't be held liable for damage arising from a painting not meeting your expectations, as long as I've kept to what we agreed about the design and execution.

And what if you fall ill?

If I'm unable to finish a commission on time due to circumstances beyond my control, such as illness, an accident or a bereavement, I'll let you know as soon as possible and we'll work out a new timeline together.

Which law applies?
